Gorski kotar (the Green Heart of Croatia) is the integral part of the Primorsko-goranska County. It is a highland with forests , and you pass through it on your way from Zagreb to Rijeka. The centar of the region is the town of Delnice, and some other famous places are Mrkopalj, Čabar, Fužine, Lič, Ravna Gora, Skrad, Vrbovsko and Brod Moravice.
The National Park "Risnjak" is located in this part of Croatia.
Gorski kotar abounds in natural beauties and particularities, with some parts completely uninhabiteted and wild, as the de-population stroke this area after the Second World War.
In the recent years, Gorski kotar is slowly reviving, more so through innitiatives of individuals, then through planned systematic measures from the Governement or other governmental institutions.
